Normal Nadine’s Typical School Day
This would probably be the toughest part of the competition, writing about my usual school day! But here goes: Me, just a normal 12 year old Year 6 student striving hard at school! Here is my Typical School Day below. But first, my school.
Located in South Western Sydney, it stretches throughout a whole street, but I have no idea how big it is. All I can say is, it is pretty big, and when I say big, I mean huge. There is Area 1, the first area entrance in my school, then move on to Area 2, where there is a Basket ball Court along with a small playground, further down, are the Toilets, Area 3; no need for any more information about that. When you go still further down, Area 4 there is a little area for the Kindergarten students- Year 2 students fitted with mini wooden tables, silver seats, and a colourful canteen… after that there is a ash- felt playground with handball courts, Area 5, followed by a medium sized grass field (Area 6) for the Kindergartners- 2nd graders, and last but not least a GIGANTIC Grass Field for the Year 3-6 students which is used on certain sunny days to play Football, Touch Footy, Soccer or just walk around with mates. Wow.. I’ve used just a giant paragraph already to sum up my school! Oh, and I almost forgot, it is a Public school full of wriggling kids who are ready to start the day anytime, ranging from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Typical Friday At School! Note: You do not need to read this all, because you are under risk of being absolutely bored… though please read it as a favour?
7:30-8:00 Mum orders me to wake up… and I jump out of bed, exhausted. Wash my face, brush my teeth, throw on my uniform, socks, any special accessories for the day, move on to the Bathroom to do my hair…. which takes around 20 minutes! Brushing does get tough…sometimes I screw up my face in struggle!
8:00-8:15 If there is any medicine for me to put on or take, this is the time… a quick Breakfast and a bad attempt to ignore my arguing siblings on the table. As soon as I’m done (You’d be surprised by how slow I eat!), I straightway wash my bowl, put on those shoes because we are strictly “Not allowed to go upstairs in shoes”.
8:15-8:30 Rush around getting 100% ready, drink some water, collect my recess and Lunch money, and get hold of my bag. Anything just to waste the time!
8:30-8:45 Off to the car I go, my bag on my shoulders. My brother is dropped off at school, but traffic slows us down as usual. Then comes us, my sisters and I.

Rush Hour! Beep Beep! Honk Honk! Let me through!
8:45-9:00 Walk up to the school entrance and meet our friends.Bathe in the heat of the sun if sunny, and take a seat on the floor to chat with Katherine and my little sister, Diala. We blabber away until the bell rings.
9:00-10:30 Run off to the class I am meant to help line up, and listen to any morning announcements…. I walk over to my teacher, Mrs Pericles, along with the rest of the Prefects and have a meeting about school events. Discussing… At 10:30 we prepare our assembly sheets, awards, and slither down to the Hall. We take a seat on the stage, set the assembly sheets, ready to begin. ( On a Monday, at this time, the Arabic Students and I have chemistry lessons with our Arabic teachers, doing exciting experiments! all the way till 11:00)
‘“Making Good Choices” Assembly‘

10:30-11:00 We, the Prefects and I, hand out awards, sing the School Song, National Anthem, listen to announcements and continue with the basic assembly until we dismiss the classes and we all wander off! As soon as the bell rings at 11:00 we take down our lunch, brains, pride, lunch money and friends down with us to Area 2 to play… I either play skipping, just chat about anything, or eat my noodles beside my friends.
11:00-12:00 I line up and rage up the stairs to class. All the time we spend either on the computers blogging, writing about a picture on the board, do Maths work. Basically either fun, or work work work. And so on it goes! If we are lucky, we go out and have some sport, any game like Dodge ball, Skipping, Softball, Beat the Ball… From A to probably V.
Year 6 in the ICT Suite at+Fair+Field+School‘

12:00-12:45 Work Work Work, Fun Fun Fun, Maybe Art Art Art… RIIIIING!! Yay! The bell goes at 12:45 and Sokeina, Momtahina and I rush off to pray in our teacher’s office. When we have finished, we run down to the canteen and buy food, jelly and if we feel like it, ice cream! We wait for our class to go outside and follow them down to either Area 7 or just ordinary Area 2. Let me speak of Area 7.
12:45-1:45 (Lunch starts actually at 1:00)So my friends and I choose Area 5 to relax in, play a few games of handball and on and on the day goes while all the rest of the kids play around on Area 7 with their mates.Bell Ring, lining up once again, up to class or off to play sport. A pretty normal day, pretty boring really from my point of view but put yourself in my shoes, you’ll be having a good time.
1:45-3:00 We do anything from anything, either computer room, playing the Wii if we are lucky ducks, reading, doing fun work. Day ends…. my sisters and I meet and wait around in the shade of the office for either our mother to come, or my father.
Well, that’s it! Not very interesting eh? If you could think of something you do at school that is more fun than what i do at school, then you are most welcome to share! Try and out-fun me, we’ll call it!!
Nothing much exciting about my day’s life at school. If I could fly or be invisible, that would fire my day up, trust me, and I would be as happy as a woman who won the lottery and was living happily ever after. You’d think my day is quite boring, I made it sound so! But mark my words, it isn’t as bad as it sounds!!!

Such a Colour As Me Poem
Such a colour as me means a whole amount of thingsA world we live in, bursting with grins, jumps of joy and relief in the eyes of those who feel freedom nesting among their limbs, heart and soul “Just Relax!” the swaying glossy sea of grass chants“Relax!!!” the wind whistles in your ears if you listen close enough
Their tune echoes in your memory for long, it dances whimsically in your heart
You shall forget the days of melancholy, anger, and sadness
Seeping through you will only be the illumination of courage and joy… a long life you’ll live perfectly
It feels like a comfy, warm cloak made of fields of grass concealing the icy chill of the day from you, hushing you to sleep with a lullaby when you are having nightmares It smells like a satisfying fragrance erupting from the prettiest flower, peppermint lingering on your breath, your neck, dissolving on your tongue…it reminds me of the peppermint chewing gum I chew till the salt disappears
Peace and quiet, only your hesitant breathing sounded. It will make you cool, calm and collected in this relaxed atmosphere There would be no special word for its appearance, but I tell you it is like a whispering Oak Tree, singing comfortingly to you in an indescribable language you’ll regret you don’t understand but it makes you close your eyes, dream of heaven, with a beam drawn over your face
This colour is bright, not yellow
But full of might
You may see this colour part of an apple or tree
Why don’t you guess it, a favour for me? T
hink to yourself: Hmmm, I wonder, what colour could it be?
When you’re done let me know soonIn your comment, guess the colour, some time around noon (If you guess it at Noon, you’ll have better luck!)
There are many clues to decipher…

Help! Help! Help!
Help! My class must do a 6 word story using an image from FlickrCC, looking carefully at the picture we want, and using good words to express what this person/thing is doing or feels etc. But I cannot choose from any of my sentences and neither can my friends. So I would like to hear opinions from some good friends of mine, YOU, since I can’t choose from any!! Please let me know which is best:
1. She enthusiastically chanted from her heart
2. Triumph is written all over her/him
3. The determination glimmers in her eyes
4. Spurring on till her bones ache
5. She/he cheers happily with endless pride
6. Victory clings to her/his spirit forever
7. Striving, supporting, encouraging, she dances joyfully
8. Courage wipes her off her feet
9. Yet she still stands with faith
10. She represents her team’s vigorous spirit
Can’t wait to hear your suggestions! Remember, choose 1 only!! Bye for now…

Inside Us.. what you will encounter with CSIRO Scientists…
WARNING: WATCH OUT! YOU MAY BE IN CONTACT WITH THESE ITEMS WHEN YOU ARE VISITED BY THE CSIRO…!!!!! SO YOU BETTER WATCH YOUR SELF AND BE CAREFUL….
They’ve come once again! The CSIRO, if you don’t know who they are, they are: Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organization.
This time, our adult helper and director was called Jan or Jane (We didn’t really hear her name properly). Many activities were held, magnificent and fun ones, maybe disgusting ones too about the Human Body, my partners were Lilly and Katherine. I’ve only recalled my favourite and most interesting routines. So if you are visited by those CSIRO people, keep an eye out for them, and yourself, AND these experiments! Don’t forget to watch them carefully, or they could be caught red handed murdering one of your friends, ripping their eyes out, blood trickling down their fingers… oops, sorry, going too far:
Rocking on a Wooden Board: We had to place both feet apart on a wooden board and rock side to side. Then, we’d close our eyes for 20 seconds, go whacko because we felt about to fall off and not peek. Later, we’d write down the results of what happened when we closed our eyes, each person had different ideas. Mine was: Felt dizzy, lost, and unbalanced, about to tumble and in another galaxy:
Human Body: We had in front of us a toy called Sam, with his body opened out in front of us but held together on a stand, so we could see the Heart, liver, lungs etc. We even had to take them out and put them back in! They were rubber, so it is okay!!:
Coloured Glasses: We put on Red, green, Blue and green glasses, paper ones, and had to look at dotted pictures. We’d soon find a sort of picture there connected by the dots, and write down what it was on a sheet. Of course, I really got confused and had to jump up and down on the spot in struggle; but in the end I got it:
Tasty Tissues (Not for us Kids you Scientists!!): Yes, this one’s a blast! We had some coloured boxes of plastic with strips of tissue in them. We had tweezers to pick it up with, and then we had to put it in our mouths without touching the metal, taste it, see if it was either bitter, sweet, sour or other. Then we spat it into a bin and wrote down our answers. Some tasted awful; others were quite tasty and sweet even though the idea of tasting tissues we stuff our noses into is outrageous…:
Cracks and Crevices: With a telescope, Lilly, Katherine and I frustratingly fixed it to our proper eyesight, and then looked through with our finger underneath. Many lines and cracks could be seen, and watching it up close seemed gross, but really it was amazing. I had a ball of a time, testing out all these wonderful experiments.
Have you ever done any of these experiments? Were you fascinated by any? What would you have done if you had to do these experiments?
Let me know your answers soon….

We’ve some Hard Work to Do!!
… all the sweat running down our blazing foreheads like rain pounding heavily down a glass window, and tire to wail on fretfully, will be worth it. All that working out, running around, doing Sport and training for it will not go to waste. Yes, we’ve some awfully hard strenuous work to get done before it can all begin, for us all to be 100% ready to swirl down that race track confidently.
Not one straightforward second of push-ups will go to waste… this wonderful event may leave us gasping for air to the harshest point, may squueze the oxygen out of our bodies, may bring out the best and worst of us; but we will be ready for it, maybe even waiting patiently like a bird waiting until the first of the sun’s blinding ray lights peep out of the sandy surface to tweet their soothing melody. Everyone is aware of the fact that China will be hosting the Olympics this year, but a surprise has knocked us off our feet! Right on our doorstep, the Mini Olympics have knocked right on my school’s doorstep, not for real, though. We are having our own Mini Olympics at school!!!!!!! How amazing it that? We will be having a few host classes, each hosting their own sports, example: Soccer, fake Hockey, Rythmic Gymnastics, lots more! Each class has to choose the country they want to represent for the Olympics, my class, the Allstars, chose Jamaica. I really wish I could have chosen Argentina but it is alright. Other countries chosen were Italy, Malta, Argentina, Lebanon, Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, China, USA! In Area 7, our grass huge field, will be the place to hold this event. Each class shall cheer for their classmates… or they will have to run 4 laps of Area 7…..
It will be brilliant, the best of fun!! There will even be medals and awards… cool! I am utterly excited and cannot wait until it comes. The date is the 22nd of August, 2008. My legs are knocking with excitement and my heart is thumping up and down like a rabbit on the run!!! When it does come, I will inform you more about it… as for your job, read and relax and be patient for my next posts….
How about you? Have you ever had the Olympics at your school? Would you like to? Why?

“Ominous Oceans …Over…”
Sailor on the boat: “Pilot, huge wave coming, over.”
Pilot: “Be careful, go in opposite direction of the waves! Or if thrown into sea, lie on yer’ back and relax til’ me plane comes to get ya’. Remember, when in danger, talk inta’ yer’ receiver (walkie talkie) an’ tell me eh?”
The receiver made a crackling noise of water dripping forcefully from a shower which were made out and recognised by the pale and shaking pilot, Oliender. No one was answering and he was anxious to find out why, but words wouldn’t be freed from his mouth. To him, this meant danger, and really serious danger. He froze like an icicle glued to the floorboards. But finally, the words that were destined to cascade out of his blue-lipped mouth finally gushed out:
Pilot: “Are you there Barrian? Barrien? What’s happened?? Over.” But still, the unknown crunching noise was only to be heard. Oliender wasn’t the man to give up at a challenge, besides, he’d never given up any squabble for 32 years and wasn’t determined to end this battle easily…..
Sorry to end the story, but unfortunately the conclusion is not to be revealed for this is a post about something quite different:
During class times, we have been busy little bee-lings working our little minds and HEADS off, creating something “Extraordinary” for the Oceans project we are doing for this term. We had each, group or personally, chosen a topic to investigate and then we’d present it after learning some facts about it, in front of the huddled class nervously. We could present it in any way, so we were relieved.
My agents, Sharon and Momtahina are doing a case about “Whaling No Way!” which we learn about whaling. We’ve been studying and building with all the effort we can and have finally made a decision. Our presentation will be a satisfying Puppet show with a box for the stadium, decorated, and a whale coming to do an interview with a special Australian Comedian.
Then after this interview where the whale will talk about whale populations, whaling, how she feels, when it started, how sailors effect whales etc, a special billionare and significant person….. yes he IS A HUMAN……will be visiting to make fireworks of excitement explode up in the interview. But unexpectedly, a mysterious lady with a silly night gown and slippers come from out of the blue in a puff and respectful applause, to interrupt his conversation complaining that,” You haven’t finished your chores!!” and the poor man misses out while the woman takes over to talk about his progress in Stopping Whaling.
This passenger turned out to be his strict wife!! This puppet show will be amusing don’t worry. But I cannot reveal further, readers, you’ve yet to keep reading to find out EXACTLY what I’m talking about!! Sorry I am so mysterious these days…..

VOLCANOES
This term, doing natural Disasters as a project, we each had to research a specific topic, ex: tornadoes, volcanoes, tsunamis etc. I chose Volcanoes and so did Celia, so we decided to work together to provide this interesting information. Also make a Photostory3 about it! This is NOT everything, but some of the interesting things. There will be more. STAY TUNED! Here is what we have came up with and please, if you could read through it and see if there is something unclear, say so, if there is a mistake, say so, and if there is something that we haven’t mentioned, you are welcome to tell us so! We are both looking forward to hearing some advice from you! There are so many things we have learned and we feel proud to have come up with THIS much! ENJOY!
Can you believe a volcano would look like this when it erupts? Really? Yes really!
Q. How were volcanoes created?A. 2 tectonic plates (big rock plates) beneath the surface of the Earth collide under each other; this is where the earth heats up and melts the rock into magma and some gases. It erupts and forms a HUGE mountain of volcano.
Did you know?Magma is a type of rock but because it is so hot, it turns into runny, hot liquid. Magma
Q. How long do eruptions last?A. Eruptions could last for less than a day, or some hundreds of years. There was an eruption in
Kilauea that started in 1983 and is still happening! It’s been on for 16 years!!!
Mount Kilauea, Hawaii, erupting like crazy! From GoogleQ. What are Underwater Volcanoes?A. Under the ocean Floor magma lies underneath, especially among the lines of weakness at plate margins. When the plates move apart, magma seeps through the gap and hardens into a new strip of crust. This type of plate margin is in the Atlantic ocean, making it wider and
Europe further apart. Underwater Volcanoes can also be created when cracks appear, magma gets released. It grows and grows until it is a mountain, they call them seamounts. They may grow above the water to form volcanic islands.
Underwater volcano under a boat! The boat didn’t even notice!!! L
Amazing facts!1. The largest active volcano is in
Hawaii called Mauna Lau, which is amazingly about 50,000 metres (15.2 km)! One of its explosions lasted for a year! WOW! Lava is JUST falling, good luck to the people next door!2. The way lava makes its way through water is as soon as it comes out from darkness, it immediately, and astonishly, transforms into a solid glass lava ball. 3. Earth’s tallest underwater volcano is Mauna Kea in Hawaii, Mauna Lau’s sister, claiming to be 9,000 metres high (29,520 feet), making it top place, as it claims its prize in getting the highest ever volcano and being higher than MOUNT EVEREST! The difference is about 150 metres (490 feet)! Can you see it in the distance? The mountain with snow?
4. There are 500 million people in danger of being attacked by a volcano all over the world, especially from japan, Indonesia and
America! At least 300, 000 people have been killed by a volcano in the last 500 years only! May they Rest In Peace! The volcano that killed most people is the one in
Indonesia in 1815, killing 90,000 people! OH NO! That’s just started erupting. People are getting ready for escape! This one is really close to people’s homes. I hope they make it! I wouldn’t want to see children die! Or families, or ANYONE AT ALL! L Stay tuned for safety guide next time, on how to survive a volcano! So get a pen and paper and get ready to write it down if you want to live! Until then, bye now, NOT forever! J
See you then! Bye!
Crazy Hair and Hat Day Comes!
Are you ready to start going CRAZY with your hairdos and hats? Here’s the place!
Crazy Heair and Hat day for the 2nd year for me! It’s really exciting having to design your hair or wear a funky, crazy hat. Unfortunately, I didn’t do anything for these reasons:
1. Because I didn’t bother to
2. My sister wasted all the hairspray my mum got!
3. I didn’t have anything on my mind to design or make anything with
So there! But it was a fabulous day! Classes showed off their lovely, crazy hairstyles while walking in the parade. Their class must be called before they come up and go MAD in front of everyone. I didn’t, because i was SO nervous!!!
Raffle tickets were sold for 20c. Lots of students bought some, even bought 30! 10 names were called out, as the winners walk up and receive their prize easter eggs or HUGE easter egg baskets. Thank GOD my sister, Norma won a HUGE easter egg basket and my family ate them all in 2 days! YUM!!!!
The end of the day, everyone was exhausted and happy. Also the Best Class Crazy Hairstyle or Hat Person were chosen!
There was a boy called Johnny who had brought 50 tickets and not won, ONE single Easter Egg, so the teachers rewarded him with a Chocolate Bunny. He deserved it!
Sharon
Sharon, this post is for you.
Since you are at China and we have a project on “Volcanoes” to do, this post is so you can find some information and comment, tell me and write the website.
I hope to hear from you and HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY AT CHINA!!!!!! ;)
Sandy had the Time of Her Life!!!
Sandy Had the Time of Her Life!!!
Music, dancing, eating and playing, everything you can POSSIBLY imagine! We ate cupcakes, lollies and had the time of our life.
You see, it was Sandy’s Birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY SANDY!!!
Sandaig from Scotland had given her to us after Mrs Pericles had visited their school and handed them a kangaroo, they just knocked us down with the mysterious package they sent to us.
We were very nervous until…until…. SANDY APPEARED! We were grateful and so happy.
So now, we have a part of them and they have a part of us.
We all boogied down and rocked on! We dug into ice cream, not once, but twice. We were only allowed 2 scoops, and all you see, the whole class dug in and received as many scoops as possible!!!! Never, in the history of my life, have I ever eaten more than 2 scoops at school parties. WHAT A MIRACLE!!!!!
My class and I also came up with the nice idea that we would bring over a stuffed toy too! And Sandy’s house turned out to be FILLED with toys. Bears, ponies, dragons, cats, dogs, leopards and MANY more!!!
I carried my baby, black and white toy penguin! I call her Luna!
So, you get the idea don’t you?
In case you don’t know how Sandy looks like, here are some pictures of her and the party.
What do you think???
Do you have a stuffed toy in your class?
Has it made you want one?
